Eve: The Inspiration and Vision of Dave Cooper

Dave Cooper (Canada, 1967) is a self-taught artist who began his career as a comic book artist and illustrator. Throughout his career, he has worked as an illustrator for underground comics, as well as creating children’s programs for Nickelodeon and the BBC. He has received several accolades from the industry, including the Ignatz Award for Outstanding Artist in 2000. Currently, his artistic focus is predominantly on oil painting creations.

Voluminous Shapes and Hedonism in His Creations

In Cooper’s work, there is an exceptional ability to play with proportions and anatomy, creating characters that, while distorted, remain deeply expressive and human. This is reflected in Eve, whose presence is both disturbing and captivating. Cooper explores hedonism and body image in search of his ideal of beauty and sexuality.

Cooper oscillates between desire, guilt, and the female mystery in his creations. He also suggests a raw and distorted image of female anatomy, focusing on distorting the volume of legs or accentuating cellulite.

The Puzzle-Shaped Base and the Vast Landscape

One of the distinguishing features of his work is its puzzle-shaped base. This design choice is not merely an aesthetic decision but represents the essence of the artist’s distinctive style: bizarre landscapes where characters engage in various hedonistic behaviors.
